Women's competition
The 2021 Crossfit Games women's competition opened this morning with a swim event. Jonne and Tia Claire Toomey-Orr won the first competition. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall and Eramoo Connell were second and third, each. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.
The women's competition is filled with top-level athletes. The field includes nine athletes, including a 19-year-old powerhouse who won the competition in Australia last year. Cutting system
CrossFit Games will again use a cutting method for individual competition. Although it's not as drastic as previous Games, it is still quite different from this year. There are 15 events in the competition, so it is possible that 30 athletes will be cut after the eighth or seventh event. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? The scoring table used during the 2019 games was almost identical to that used in 2021. It is likely that this will continue.
This year's CrossFit Games team includes 236 competitors, making it the largest ever. Major cuts occur in the first six events. The field is now reduced to 75. The top 30 competitors then compete in the sprint couplet to determine which athlete is number ten. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Castro's system has been criticized by veterans Games athletes who feel that the cuts are too significant.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok announced new CrossFit Games footwear, clothing and other equipment. The Nano X1 shoes are the new model. They can be used for multiple fitness goals.
